Alert Monterey County is the official emergency alert and warning system for the County of Monterey and its municipal jurisdictions. This system delivers critical public safety information to the public from the local government and public safety officials. The Alert Monterey County is managed by the County of Monterey Department of Emergency Management and administered by Public Safety Answering Points, Law Enforcement, Fire, Public Health, and Emergency Management agencies.

Upon signing up for Alert Monterey County, select to receive alerts through landline calls, cell phone text messages or pre-recorded verbal messages and email. The system also works with telephone devices for the deaf. When we issue a notification about a potential hazard, you will receive a message on the communication method that you registered. Sign up online to receive alerts.

SMS Keywords: In addition to registering for alerts through Alert Monterey County you can select to receive text messages based on keywords or your zip code.  These alerts originate from Alert Monterey County and include public safety messages as well as emergency information. Text your zip code to 65513 to opt-in. Keyword alerts do not replace the need to register at AlertMontereyCounty.org

Planning for Your Health During an Emergency

Emergencies can disrupt access to medications, medical equipment, transportation, and healthcare services.

Taking a few additional precautions can help individuals and families better manage their health needs during unexpected situations.

Consider these important steps:

May contain: electronics, screen, computer hardware, hardware, monitor, medication, and pill
  • Keep a medication list: Maintain an updated list of prescriptions, dosages, allergies, and important medical information.
  • Plan for medical equipment: If you rely on oxygen, refrigerated medications, or electricity-dependent medical devices, discuss backup options with your healthcare provider or equipment supplier.
  • Prepare important contacts: Keep contact information for your healthcare providers, pharmacies, caregivers, and emergency contacts readily available.
  • Consider additional needs: Include supplies and assistance plans for older adults, individuals with disabilities, infants, and family members with ongoing medical needs.
  • Plan ahead for disruptions: Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist how to maintain access to essential medications and care during an emergency.

Preparing for medical needs is an important part of protecting your health and supporting the well-being of those who depend on you.
