Are you passionate about community health and ready to take on a leadership role? The Soledad Community Health Care District is currently seeking to appoint a new member to its Board of Directors following a recent vacancy.

What is the vacancy?
The Soledad Community Health Care District currently has a vacancy on its Board of Directors and is seeking to appoint a qualified individual to serve for the remainder of the term.
Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants must:
- Be a registered voter
- Reside within District boundaries
- Have an interest in community health, governance, and public service
What is the time commitment for a Board member?
Board service requires a meaningful time commitment. Prospective applicants should expect to dedicate at least 10 hours per month, and occasionally more depending on District needs.
This includes:
- Preparation for meetings
- Attendance at regular and special meetings
- Participation in budget and planning discussions
- Ongoing communication and training
Some months may require 10–15 hours, particularly during budget season or special initiatives.
When are Board meetings held?
- Regular Board meetings are typically held on the 4th Thursday of each month
- In some months, meetings may be scheduled on the 3rd Thursday due to holidays or scheduling needs
- Regular meeting times are generally 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Meeting schedules are posted publicly in advance, and changes are noticed in accordance with open meeting laws.
Are there meetings in addition to regular Board meetings?
Yes. In addition to regular meetings, Board members may be asked to attend:
- Special Board meetings
- Budget workshops or budget hearings
- Board retreat(s)
- Other time-sensitive meetings as needed
Some of these meetings may occur earlier in the day, and meeting times can vary.
Are Board members expected to attend District events?
Board members are encouraged to attend employee and community events when possible, such as:
- Employee recognition events
- Facility milestones or celebrations
- Community engagement activities
Attendance is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged to support staff and remain connected to District operations and culture.
What is the role of a Board member?
Board members serve as governing officials, not day-to-day operators. Their responsibilities include:
- Establishing policies and strategic direction
- Providing fiscal oversight and accountability
- Supporting the District’s mission and long-term sustainability
- Hiring and evaluating the Chief Executive Officer
- Representing the interests of the community
Board members act collectively as a governing body and do not have individual authority outside Board action.
What is the term of service?
The appointed individual will serve for the remainder of the current Board term. Depending on timing and interest, the appointee may choose to seek election in a future election cycle.

Is there onboarding or training for new Board members?
Yes. New Board members receive onboarding support, which may include:
- Orientation with District leadership
- Overview of District facilities, finances, and governance
- Access to key policies, bylaws, and reference materials
- Participation in trainings required under applicable state law and District policies or bylaws, as amended from time to time.
This process is designed to ensure new members are informed, supported, and prepared to serve effectively.
Is this a paid position?
Board members serve as public officials. Any compensation, if applicable, is governed by District policy and state law.
